The Audience Applauds?

The Audience Applauds?

by John Stiles

A point where you take the mic, pull it out, disconnect,
look at your soles, pant leg: Look out Betram
The audience, like guests round a ball room floor,
napkins, plates, as the sweeper runs through.

You want to do your part take a cheap laugh, why not?
Stand on the stairs? You forget your bits. Try the piece
from your walk through the park. Better not drink so much.
Why drink at all?

You`re cute (ish) when you wear your hat. Is it like men
who wear beards, do they have something to hide?

That voice, you know it is coming how many times to hear that?

When will you, or she realize, she should bring her pick, tune
her guitar, and you, you might have to change your shoes, again.
Afterwards these poets: mopers in tilleys, accosting you in the can.
